Is Liquid Web a good web host?
Yes, with a contract to read first. Liquid Web’s managed WordPress plans bundle what most hosts sell as add-ons, a Cloudflare edge CDN, a web application firewall, Object Cache Pro, daily backups and a human-run migration, at $9 a month, on four data centers the company owns, with a phone line that answers at night. The independent record is long and decent: HostingStep has monitored it since 2021 and reports solid uptime, strong load handling and an ordinary first-byte time. The terms are the other side: fees are non-refundable, leaving early costs money, and the cheapest plan has no staging. Everything below is a published fact we checked on 14 October 2026 or a gap we name.
What do you get on each plan?

Every WordPress plan includes DDoS protection, a WAF, the Cloudflare-powered edge CDN, Object Cache Pro, Kadence Security Pro, automatic WordPress updates, daily malware scans, free SSL, a self-serve migration tool and a migration done by a person. The tiers differ by backup retention (7, 14 and 30 days) and by what sits above the line: Pro adds staging sites and a visual comparison of updates, Elite adds stencils and Patchstack virtual patching. The one-site tiers carry 15 GB of storage and 2 TB of bandwidth shared across the account and a 50,000-visitor guidance; larger visitor tiers (150,000 and 400,000, with 40 and 100 GB) and multi-site options are configured on the same page. Performance Shield is an optional add-on, and autoscaling and CDN overage are billed by usage.
Managed VPS is the other product line we read: fully managed plans at $72, $100, $145 and $178 a month for 2 to 6 vCPU, 4 to 24 GB RAM, 80 to 540 GB SSD and 3 to 8 TB of bandwidth on a 10 Gbps network, with cPanel, InterWorx or Plesk, root access, a dedicated IP, DDoS protection and Acronis backup storage; Windows is available.
What does it cost?
| Plan | Monthly |
|---|---|
| Essentials WordPress | $9.00/mosame at renewal |
| Pro WordPress | $19.00/mosame at renewal |
| Elite WordPress | $29.00/mosame at renewal |

The WordPress page prices the one-site tiers at $9, $19 and $29 a month with the monthly toggle selected by default, and offers 10 percent off on annual billing; the static page carries a dash where the price goes, so we read the figures the browser renders. There is no promotional first term and no renewal markup. The terms allow Liquid Web to raise fees with 30 days’ notice, effective at the next renewal.
Three-year cost on the entry plan
| Route | Years 1 to 3 |
|---|---|
| Essentials, month to month | $9 × 36 = $324 |
| Essentials, annual at 10 percent off (as the toggle states) | about $292 |
How do refunds work?
They do not. Section 3 of the terms of service, effective 8 May 2024, says all services are non-cancellable and all fees non-refundable except as the agreement provides, and third-party equipment resold with a service is never refunded. You can terminate an order for convenience with 30 days’ written notice, but a service ended before its term carries an early termination charge of the remaining monthly recurring charges on flat-rated services. Credit cards are charged monthly, late payments carry 1.5 percent a month, and unused service or referral credits are forfeited at termination.
What is the infrastructure?
Liquid Web’s own data centers in Lansing (its home), Phoenix, Ashburn and Amsterdam, per the data centers page; the about page counts 22 facilities across the group, which includes Nexcess, and 180,000 customers. The SLA guarantees 100 percent network uptime, measured as reachability of the network’s major routing devices, with compensation requested within five business days and capped at the monthly recurring charge, plus 30-minute hardware replacement on dedicated servers; the managed VPS page states a 99.9 percent server uptime guarantee. The WordPress plans run on Liquid Web’s own platform with Cloudflare in front; VPS plans sit on SSD storage and a 10 Gbps network.
How fast and reliable is it?
HostingStep’s review by Mohan Raj, updated on 22 July 2026, has monitored a managed WordPress site (its Spark Thrive plan) with Pingdom every minute since 2021 and publishes the check ID:
- 99.96 percent uptime from 1 October 2025 to 31 May 2026, with three outages and 1 hour 56 minutes of downtime. By year: 99.91 percent with 25 outages in 2021, 99.99 percent with five outages and 63 minutes in 2025.
- An average TTFB of 496 ms from US locations over the window, up from 413 ms in 2022; the page places it just above the median of the hosts it monitors.
- A load test at 100 concurrent users with a 60 ms average response and no errors, and a cached global TTFB of 349 ms across 40 locations.
Cybernews, in a review by Meda Arce updated on 12 January 2026, tested a standard VPS in Amsterdam with no caching or CDN configured for two weeks: 100 percent uptime, an 83.77 ms average response, a 1,541 ms LCP on an empty WordPress install, and a five-minute k6 run at 50 users that served 4,733 requests with a 506 ms P95 and no failures.
WPBeginner’s review, dated 26 May 2025, measured a 1.7 s GTmetrix load and a 702 ms LCP, describes response times under 600 ms in the US and Europe and a smooth 50-user k6 run without figures, and recorded 100 percent uptime over an unstated period.
HostScore’s review, updated on 14 October 2026, scores Liquid Web 79.5 percent and describes reliable uptime without a method. We found no Kripesh Adwani review.
Read together: dependable, with a year-on-year improvement in uptime, strong behaviour under load, and a US first-byte time that is average for managed WordPress and slower than it was. Only HostingStep names the plan it tested.
How good is the support?
Phone, chat and tickets around the clock on every plan, a knowledge base and, per Cybernews, a response promise of 59 seconds for chat and phone and 59 minutes for tickets. HostingStep rates the features and support highly; HostScore counts 57 positive and 13 negative submissions and calls the help “real human help when things go wrong”. We have not timed tickets ourselves and will add real ones to the support table on this page.
Who owns Liquid Web, and where is it?
Liquid Web, LLC, which the site footer describes as “by Nexcess Corp.” and whose header links Nexcess.com and Servers.com as sister brands, based in Lansing, Michigan, where its primary data center sits. The about page counts more than 180,000 customers and 22 data centers across the group. HostScore dates the founding to 1997 by Matthew Hill in Lansing; Liquid Web’s own pages we read give no founding date, so we cite it as HostScore’s account.
What is missing or unclear?
- Whether email hosting is included on the WordPress plans; HostingStep says yes, the plan cards do not list it.
- The annual price in dollars; the page states a 10 percent saving without printing the figure.
- Which data center a WordPress plan uses and whether it can be chosen.
- Which plan WPBeginner tested, and its monitoring window.
- HostIdea’s own monitoring, support timing and load testing have not started.
Who should choose Liquid Web, and who should wait?
Choose it if your site is a business asset, you want the CDN, firewall and caching handled for you, and you value a phone number more than a refund window. Pro at $19 is the plan to buy: staging and visual comparison make updates safe, with 14 days of backups behind them.
Wait if you might leave within the year, or if you want a stated allocation of CPU and RAM on a cheap plan. Kinsta sells a similar managed layer at $30 with a 30-day guarantee for first-time customers; Cloudways gives you a server of your own by the hour with no commitment.
How we scored this review
The scores on this page are provisional. Uptime rests on HostingStep’s eight-month window and yearly history plus two short windows. Performance weighs a 496 ms US TTFB against a 60 ms load result and a 349 ms global figure. Features credit the CDN, WAF, caching, backups and migration included at $9, and deduct for the missing staging on Essentials. Value weighs the entry price against non-refundable terms and the $72 VPS step. Support reflects three channels with a published response promise, not timed tickets. Each score will be recomputed when our own data exists, and the review history on this page will show the change.
