# Namecheap review 2026: cheap cPanel hosting with a free trial, a 100 percent guarantee it does not meet, and no phone

Namecheap's three Stellar plans at every billing term, the 30-day trial and guarantee rules, four data centers, and the published uptime and load-test figures with their dates.

## Verdict

Namecheap's shared hosting is cheap in the way that matters: Stellar renews at $5.88 a month for three sites and Stellar Plus at $7.88 for unlimited sites, with cPanel, Imunify360, a CDN and four data centers, and you can try either free for 30 days. It is the right pick for an owner who already keeps domains there and wants a low-cost home for small sites. Skip it if uptime or load matter: the only year-long independent record we can cite shows 99.89 percent against a 100 percent guarantee, and a 50-user load test was throttled to about ten requests a second. Support is chat and tickets only.

Best for

- Owners who already keep their domains at Namecheap
- Small sites that want to try hosting free for 30 days
- Sites with an audience in the UK, the Netherlands or Singapore
- Budget hosting with cPanel and a low renewal

Skip it if

- You want phone support
- Your site must absorb traffic spikes on shared hosting
- You want daily backups on the cheapest plan

### What we liked

- **Low renewals.** Stellar renews at $5.88 a month and Stellar Plus at $7.88 for unlimited sites, among the lowest regular prices in our list.
- **30-day free trial on every plan.** One trial per account, available on the monthly, yearly and two-year terms, before any charge.
- **Four data centers to choose from.** Phoenix, Amsterdam, Singapore and Farnborough in the UK, listed in the knowledge base with the hosting types each supports.
- **Imunify360 and a CDN included.** Malware scanning, intrusion prevention and a firewall on every plan, plus the Supersonic CDN with DDoS protection for domains on Namecheap's nameservers.
- **A written uptime remedy.** The uptime guarantee page promises one day of service per hour of unscheduled downtime, up to a month, claimed by ticket within ten days.

### What held it back

- **Uptime below its own guarantee.** Kripesh Adwani's monitor averaged 99.89 percent over the 365 days to September 2026 on a Stellar site in the US; Cybernews recorded 99.29 percent over two weeks in May 2026.
- **Throttled under load.** Kripesh Adwani's 50-user test from the US was held to about ten requests a second with a 2,859 ms average response; Cybernews's run averaged 229 ms without failures.
- **No phone support.** Support is live chat and tickets; HostScore reports longer waits on complex issues.
- **Twice-weekly backups on Stellar.** Restored by support ticket; the daily AutoBackup starts with Stellar Plus.
- **No free domain, no caching layer.** The plan cards list neither; the plan page offers domain discounts with hosting instead.

## What did our tests show?

HostIdea has not opened its own monitoring window for Namecheap yet, so there is no HostIdea uptime or response figure on this page. The published measurements we could find are listed below, attributed to the people who ran them. This section will carry our data when a window completes.

No test results published yet.

### What do published measurements show?

Longest independent window: 99.89% uptime over last 365 days to September 2026 (Kripesh Adwani). Response times reported: 19 ms (Kripesh Adwani, server response from the US; 80 ms from Canada, rising toward Asian test points), 229 ms (Cybernews, average response during the 50-user stress test).

Measurements published by others, as they state them. HostIdea did not run these tests; each row links to its source and shows the date we read it.

## Is Namecheap a good web host?

Good value, middling reliability. Namecheap is a registrar first, and its shared hosting is priced to keep domain customers in the family: $5.88 a month at renewal for three sites with cPanel, free SSL, a CDN and Imunify360 is cheap, and a 30-day free trial removes the risk of finding out. The record is weaker than the price. The one independent monitor with a year of data shows 99.89 percent, below the 100 percent the plan page promises, and the one load test from the same source was throttled. Everything below is a published fact we checked on 14 October 2026 or a gap we name.

Every plan runs cPanel with Softaculous on SSD, with unmetered bandwidth, 50 free standard SSL certificates for a year installed automatically, Imunify360 security, KernelCare patching, account isolation, cPanel two-factor login, the Supersonic CDN with DDoS protection, free cPanel-to-cPanel migration, the Sitejet AI website builder, an AI assistant for WordPress, Jailshell SSH with PHP, Perl, Python, Node.js and Ruby, and a 30-day free trial. Stellar is capped at 3 sites, 20 GB, 30 mailboxes, 30 subdomains, 50 FTP users and 300,000 inodes, with backups twice a week that support restores on request. Stellar Plus removes the caps (unmetered storage under the acceptable use policy) and adds AutoBackup with 6 daily, 3 weekly and 5 monthly copies. Stellar Business keeps the AutoBackup, doubles the inodes to 600,000 and moves the account to 50 GB of cloud storage, which the page describes as virtual machines with data replicated across servers; at the Amsterdam and Singapore locations every Stellar plan sits on that cloud storage.

Three terms, read from the page’s billing tabs with the US data center selected. The monthly term costs the regular price from the start: $5.88, $7.88 and $11.88. The yearly term discounts the first year to $2.28, $2.98 and $4.98 and the two-year term to $1.88, $2.28 and $4.48; both renew at the regular price. The plan page’s disclaimers say the discount applies to annual and biennial purchases only and never to renewals. The comparison block lower on the page prints Stellar as $26.88 a year, slightly less than twelve times $2.28, so the first invoice may differ by cents from the card. The UK and EU data centers are priced separately; the figures here are for Phoenix.

### Three-year cost on the entry plan

| Route | Years 1 to 3 |
| --- | --- |
| 12 months, renewed twice | $27.36 + $70.56 + $70.56 = $168.48 |
| 24 months, then 12 at the regular price | $45.12 + $70.56 = $115.68 |
| Month to month | $5.88 × 36 = $211.68 |

Namecheap also runs a renewal promotion from time to time (15 percent off renewals during its anniversary when we read the page); we do not count promotions in the table.

## How do refunds work?

Two separate mechanisms. The free trial lets you start any Stellar plan at $0 for 30 days, one trial per account, after which the chosen term is charged. The money-back guarantee, set out in the hosting terms of service, refunds a first-time Stellar, Stellar Plus or Stellar Business account cancelled within 30 days of sign-up, but not an account that began as a trial, a second account, or a customer who cancelled and signed up again. Dedicated IPs, SSL certificates, renewals, third-party products bought separately and domain fees are never refunded; dedicated servers get 7 days.

Renewals: the agreement renews for terms of the same length, and cancellation is by a billing ticket at least three working days before the renewal date. There is a seven-day grace period at Namecheap’s discretion and a $15 fee to reinstate a suspended account.

## What is the infrastructure?

Four data centers, per the knowledge base: Phoenix (RadiusDC) for shared, reseller, email, VPS and dedicated; Amsterdam, Singapore and Farnborough (Datum) for shared hosting. You pick at checkout; moving later is a request to billing. The plan page describes Dell PowerEdge blade enclosures with redundant power and network and SAN storage for the US shared platform, and cloud storage on virtual machines for Stellar Business in the US and every plan in Amsterdam and Singapore. Namecheap says the EU and Singapore sites run on renewable power.

The uptime guarantee page promises 100 percent monthly availability on shared plans. The remedy is a service extension of one day per hour of unscheduled downtime, up to one month, claimed by a billing ticket within ten calendar days, confirmed by support and granted at Namecheap’s discretion; DDoS, third-party software and resource limits are excluded.

## How fast and reliable is it?

Kripesh Adwani’s review, updated on 6 October 2026, monitors a Stellar site on the US servers every 30 seconds and prints a month-by-month table back to February 2023:

- 99.89 percent over the 365 days to September 2026, and 99.89 percent over the last 30 days. The worst month of the year was July 2025 at 99.46 percent; earlier dips reached 99.42 percent in May 2024.
- Server response of 19 ms from the US and 80 ms from Canada, rising with distance toward Asia.
- A load test of 50 virtual users from the US: 2,521 requests, no failures, but throttled to about ten requests a second with an average response of 2,859 ms. The page calls the result poor.
- Page load of 1.51 s from the US and over 4 s from Bangalore.

Cybernews, in a review by Konstantinas Kofanovas updated on 15 May 2026, hosted a test site in the US data center and monitored it for two weeks: 99.29 percent uptime with 94.20 percent reachability, a Largest Contentful Paint of 1,135 ms from the US (about 1.8 s from the UK and 2.7 s from India), and a 50-user stress test that held a steady 229 ms average with no failed requests.

HostScore’s review, updated on 14 October 2026, scores Namecheap 62.9 percent and says uptime generally stays above 99.9 percent in its research, without a method. We found no WPBeginner or HostingStep review with a dated figure.

Read together: fast to respond from nearby, ordinary uptime that misses its own guarantee, and two load tests that disagree, one throttled and one fine. Neither source says which plan or server the other’s site used, so the gap may be a plan or a server rather than a platform.

## How good is the support?

Live chat and tickets, 24/7, with a large knowledge base; there is no phone number for hosting. The terms of service add two things worth knowing: support covers Namecheap’s own service only and may be refused or charged for anything else, and an excessive number of chats or tickets can be treated as abuse of the help desk. HostScore describes quick chat connections but longer waits on complex issues, with 166 positive and 37 negative submissions on its page; Cybernews reports a helpful pre-sales chat. We have not timed tickets ourselves and will add real ones to the support table on this page.

## Who owns Namecheap, and where is it?

Namecheap, Inc., 4600 East Washington Street, Suite 300, Phoenix, Arizona, founded in 2000 by Richard Kirkendall, who the about page lists as founder. The company counts more than 2,600 staff across 18 countries and 24 million domains under management, and its site notes that many colleagues are in or from Ukraine. The hosting agreement is governed by Arizona law.

## What is missing or unclear?

- Whether any shared plan includes a free domain. The disclaimers mention first-year free domains on bundles; the plan cards do not.
- The surcharge for the UK and EU data centers (reviewers report $1 a month; the page prices them through a selector we did not read).
- Which plan and server Cybernews tested.
- Whether a server-side cache exists; none is listed.
- HostIdea’s own monitoring, support timing and load testing have not started.

## Who should choose Namecheap, and who should wait?

Choose it if your domains are already at Namecheap, your sites are small and your budget is the deciding factor: Stellar Plus on the two-year term is $54.72 for unlimited sites with daily backups, and the trial lets you check the location and the panel first.

Wait if your site must stay up and fast under load. Hostinger publishes better independent figures at a similar renewal; HostArmada gives a 45-day refund, stated cores and RAM and nine locations; SiteGround costs more and has the longest record of the hosts we review.

## How we scored this review

The scores on this page are provisional. Uptime reflects a 365-day record of 99.89 percent and a two-week 99.29 percent against a 100 percent guarantee. Performance weighs a throttled load test against a steady one and a fast nearby response. Features credit cPanel, the CDN, Imunify360 and the four locations, and deduct for twice-weekly backups on Stellar, no caching and no domain. Value credits the regular prices and the trial. Support reflects chat-only channels and mixed public feedback, not timed tickets. Each score will be recomputed when our own data exists, and the review history on this page will show the change.

## How much does Namecheap cost?

The Stellar plan starts at $2.28/mo on a 12-month term and renews at $5.88/mo. 30 days full refund.

## Frequently asked questions

- **### What does Namecheap shared hosting cost after the first term?**: The regular prices are $5.88 a month for Stellar, $7.88 for Stellar Plus and $11.88 for Stellar Business, which is also what the monthly term costs from day one. The yearly term starts at $2.28, $2.98 and $4.98 and the two-year term at $1.88, $2.28 and $4.48, all at the US data center.

- **### How does the Namecheap free trial work?**: Every Stellar plan can be started free for 30 days, one trial per account, on the monthly, yearly or two-year term. The 30-day money-back guarantee is separate and only applies to first-time customers who did not start with the trial.

- **### What is Namecheap's uptime guarantee worth?**: It promises 100 percent monthly uptime on shared plans. If unscheduled downtime occurs, you can claim one extra day of service per hour of downtime, up to one month, by opening a billing ticket within ten days. Support must confirm the downtime, and the remedy is at Namecheap's discretion.

- **### Where are Namecheap's servers?**: Phoenix in the US, Amsterdam, Singapore and Farnborough in the UK, chosen at checkout. The US prices on this page are for Phoenix; the UK and EU locations are priced separately, and moving an account later is a request to the billing team.

- **### Does Namecheap have phone support?**: No. Hosting support is through 24/7 live chat and tickets, and the terms warn that excessive chats or tickets can be treated as abuse of the help desk.

## Review history

1. Oct 14, 2026First version built from verified sources, read in a headless browser because the site answers plain requests with 403: the shared hosting page (three Stellar plans, the monthly, yearly and bi-yearly prices read by switching the billing tabs with the US data center selected, the tech specs table, the disclaimers), the hosting terms of service (30-day guarantee for first-time accounts, exclusions, cancellation three working days before renewal, Phoenix address), the uptime guarantee page (100 percent monthly, one day per hour of downtime, up to a month), the data centers knowledge base article (Phoenix, Amsterdam, Singapore, Farnborough) and the about page (2000, founder, 2,600 staff). Published measurements by Kripesh Adwani (365-day monthly table, Stellar in the US) and Cybernews (May 2026) are stored in thirdParty\[\]; HostScore is kept as an aggregate; no WPBeginner or HostingStep review with a dated figure was found. No HostIdea monitoring window is open, so the scores are provisional: uptime reflects 99.89 percent over a year against a 100 percent guarantee, performance the throttled load test against Cybernews's steadier one, support the chat-only channels and mixed public feedback, value the $5.88 renewal for three sites and the free trial.
