# KnownHost review 2026: managed cPanel hosting with stated cores and RAM, and no current independent measurement

KnownHost's four shared plans with every billing term and its own renewal rate, the 30-day rules for new customers, three data centers, and what has and has not been measured.

## Verdict

KnownHost sells shared hosting the way VPS hosts do: each plan states its cores and memory limit, runs LiteSpeed with LSCache on NVMe under CloudLinux, and includes daily backups, Imunify360, a free migration and a choice of Atlanta, Seattle or Amsterdam. Choose it for that specification and a managed team with a phone number. Wait if the renewal matters (Basic renews at $7.16 on three years but $8.95 monthly, for one site and 10 GB), if you want a free domain, or if you want an independent measurement newer than a 2021 TechRadar month. Standard on three years is the plan to buy.

Best for

- Sites that want a stated CPU and RAM allocation on shared hosting
- Owners who want managed support with a phone number
- Visitors on the US coasts or in Europe (Atlanta, Seattle, Amsterdam)
- Developers who want LiteSpeed, Redis and SSH on cPanel

Skip it if

- You expect a free domain with the hosting
- You want a host with a published, recent uptime record
- You need more than five mailboxes on the cheapest plan

## How KnownHost scores

Six sub-scores with their weights. Scores updated Oct 14, 2026. [How each one is computed](https://hostidea.com/methodology#scoring).

- **Performance (weight 25%)**: 7.5

- **Uptime (weight 20%)**: 7.0

### What we liked

- **Resources stated per plan.** 1, 2, 4 and 6 cores with 1, 2, 4 and 6 GB memory limits under CloudLinux, printed on the cards.
- **Performance stack on every plan.** LiteSpeed with LSCache, NVMe storage, AMD EPYC servers, optional Redis and Memcached, on Basic as well as Premium.
- **Daily backups and Imunify360 included.** JetBackup copies with 2-day and 1-week retention, real-time malware scanning and a web application firewall at no extra cost.
- **Three locations and a free migration.** Atlanta, Seattle or Amsterdam at checkout; the migrations team moves files, databases and email and tests the result.
- **Every term priced on the page.** Monthly, one-year, two-year and three-year tabs show the first price and the renewal for that term.

### What held it back

- **No current independent measurement.** The only dated test is TechRadar's one-month UptimeRobot window from March 2021; no 2025 or 2026 review in our source list covers KnownHost.
- **No free domain.** Domains are sold separately on every plan.
- **Renewals depend on the term.** Basic renews at $7.16 on the three-year term, $8.06 on two years, $8.51 on one year and $8.95 monthly, all for one site and 10 GB.
- **Small entry plan.** One site, 10 GB, five mailboxes and two databases on Basic; Standard is the first plan with room.
- **Uptime promise lives on a marketing page.** The network page claims a 99.999 percent availability SLA; the terms of service contain no uptime clause or credit.

## What did our tests show?

HostIdea has not opened its own monitoring window for KnownHost yet, so there is no HostIdea uptime or response figure on this page. The published measurements we could find are listed below, attributed to the people who ran them. This section will carry our data when a window completes.

No test results published yet.

### What do published measurements show?

Longest independent window: 100.00% uptime over one month of monitoring in early 2021 (TechRadar).

Measurements published by others, as they state them. HostIdea did not run these tests; each row links to its source and shows the date we read it.

## Is KnownHost a good web host?

The specification says yes; the evidence is missing. KnownHost’s shared plans publish what most budget hosts hide: cores and a memory limit per plan, the web server (LiteSpeed with LSCache), the isolation layer (CloudLinux), the backup tool and retention (JetBackup, two days and one week), and three named data centers. The company has been in business since 2006 and reviewers consistently praise its support. What nobody in our source list has done is monitor a KnownHost shared site recently: the one dated test is a month in early 2021. Everything below is a published fact we checked on 14 October 2026 or a gap we name.

Every plan includes cPanel with Softaculous (400 or more one-click scripts), LiteSpeed with LSCache, NVMe storage on AMD EPYC servers, CloudLinux isolation, free SSL, daily JetBackup backups, Imunify360 malware scanning with a web application firewall, IPv6, SSH, Git, cron jobs, current PHP versions, a free migration and 24/7 support. The tiers scale cores and memory (1 and 1 GB, 2 and 2 GB, 4 and 4 GB, 6 and 6 GB), sites (1, 5, unlimited, unlimited), storage (10 GB, 25 GB, unlimited, unlimited), mailboxes (5, 25, unlimited, unlimited) and databases (2, 5, unlimited, unlimited). Patchman, a malware remover, is optional on Basic and Standard and included above; Premium adds a dedicated IPv4 address. Bandwidth is “unlimited premium” on the cards, while the terms set an overage rate of $20 per TB and say exceeding the limit in the first 30 days voids the guarantee, so a limit exists somewhere. Redis and Memcached are available as options.

The page has four billing tabs and prints a first price and a renewal for each; the static page carries placeholder figures, so we read the prices the browser renders. Three years is the cheapest on both counts: Basic at $3.47 then $7.16, against $6.72 then $8.51 on one year and $6.71 then $8.95 month to month, where the first month is discounted and the renewal is the regular price. Two years sits between. The same pattern holds on every plan, so the renewal you pay is set by the term you pick, not only by the plan.

### Three-year cost on the entry plan

| Route | Years 1 to 3 |
| --- | --- |
| 36 months up front | $124.92 (renews at $257.76 for the next three years) |
| 12 months, renewed twice | $80.64 + $102.12 + $102.12 = $284.88 |
| Month to month | $6.71 + $8.95 × 35 = $319.96 |

## How do refunds work?

The terms of service give new customers, defined as anyone who has never bought from KnownHost, a full refund within the first 30 days, excluding dedicated servers, domain registrations and SSL certificates, and void if the bandwidth limit or the terms are breached in that period. All payments are non-refundable after 30 days. Switching a longer term to monthly within the first 30 days refunds the balance; after that, cancelling a longer term before renewal pro-rates the service to the nearest monthly cycle and credits the rest to the account. Renewal notices go out 14 days ahead and a card on file is charged two days before the due date, so cancellation must be lodged before then, with the plan’s IP and hostname in the request.

## What is the infrastructure?

AMD EPYC servers with NVMe storage, LiteSpeed and CloudLinux, per the plan page. Three data centers, per the about and network pages: Atlanta (primary), Seattle, with peering at the Seattle Internet Exchange, and Amsterdam in an Interxion campus with AMS-IX access, each connected to several 10-gigabit backbones. The network page claims a 99.999 percent availability SLA and “99.99+%” uptimes, but the terms of service we read carry no uptime clause and no credit schedule, so the claim has no contractual remedy that we could find.

## How fast and reliable is it?

TechRadar’s review, published on 2 March 2021, monitored a KnownHost test site with UptimeRobot for one month and recorded no downtime. Its GTmetrix speed figures (a 1.5 s full load, grade A) were taken on knownhost.com’s own homepage rather than on a hosted site, so we do not treat them as a measurement of the hosting. The plan and location are not stated, and the plans and prices on the page no longer match today’s.

HostScore’s review, updated on 14 October 2026, scores KnownHost 74.2 percent, describes reliable uptime and solid speed without publishing figures, and reports praise for support on Trustpilot. We found no WPBeginner, Cybernews, HostingStep or Kripesh Adwani review of KnownHost.

Read together: nothing that counts as a current measurement. The stack and the per-plan allocations are the same ingredients that produce good results at hosts we do have data for, which is a description, not a result.

## How good is the support?

KnownHost describes its support as 24/7 and managed, with a toll-free US number on every page and tickets through the client area; the migration and upgrade work is done by its team. The about page says many staff have been there since the company began. HostScore reports consistent praise for responsiveness and expertise, with 24 positive and 10 negative submissions on its page; TechRadar found the team willing to help choose a plan. We have not timed tickets ourselves and will add real ones to the support table on this page.

## Who owns KnownHost, and where is it?

KnownHost, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company named in the terms of service, in business since 2006 per the about page and the site footer. Its pages describe it as US-based with data centers in Atlanta, Seattle and Amsterdam, and do not name the owners or a head office city. HostScore calls it a lesser-known US provider with a reputation among technical users.

## What is missing or unclear?

- Any independent measurement of the current shared platform.
- The bandwidth figure behind “unlimited premium bandwidth” and the $20 per TB overage.
- Whether the 99.999 percent availability claim carries any remedy; the terms do not say.
- Whether live chat exists; the pages name tickets and a phone number.
- HostIdea’s own monitoring, support timing and load testing have not started.

## Who should choose KnownHost, and who should wait?

Choose it if you want shared hosting that behaves like a small managed server, with a known CPU and memory allocation, LiteSpeed caching and a team that migrates and upgrades for you, and your visitors are near Atlanta, Seattle or Amsterdam. Standard on three years is the plan to buy: five sites, 2 cores, 2 GB, 25 GB and 25 mailboxes for $233.28, renewing at $11.01 a month.

Wait if you want proof first, or a domain in the price. HostArmada publishes stated cores and RAM with a 365-day independent record and a 45-day refund; Verpex offers a similar stack with nine locations and a free domain. Both renew in the same range.

## How we scored this review

The scores on this page are provisional, and more so than for hosts with current independent data. Performance credits the stack and the stated allocations, held near the middle for want of a measurement. Uptime reflects the absence of a current record and a marketing-page SLA with no contractual remedy. Features credit the resources, backups, security and locations, and deduct for the missing domain and the small Basic plan. Value weighs renewals that depend on the term. Support reflects the channels and reviewer accounts, not timed tickets. Each score will be recomputed when data exists, and the review history on this page will show the change.

## How much does KnownHost cost?

The Basic plan starts at $3.47/mo on a 36-month term and renews at $7.16/mo. 30 days full refund.

## Frequently asked questions

- **### What does KnownHost shared hosting cost after the first term?**: It depends on the term you chose. On three years Basic renews at $7.16 a month, Standard at $11.01, Professional at $16.96 and Premium at $33.96. On one year the renewals are $8.51, $12.31, $18.96 and $37.96, and month to month $8.95, $12.95, $19.95 and $39.96.

- **### How does KnownHost's money-back guarantee work?**: New customers, meaning anyone who has never bought from KnownHost before, can request a full refund within the first 30 days. Dedicated servers, domains and SSL certificates are excluded, and the guarantee is void if you exceed the bandwidth limit or break the terms in that time. After 30 days nothing is refunded; cancelling a longer term early converts the remainder into account credit.

- **### Where are KnownHost's servers?**: Atlanta, Georgia (the primary site), Seattle, Washington and Amsterdam. You choose at checkout, and the network page describes the carriers at each.

- **### Does KnownHost include backups?**: Yes. Every shared plan includes daily JetBackup copies with two-day and one-week retention; longer retention is a paid add-on.

- **### Who owns KnownHost?**: KnownHost, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company named in the terms of service, in business since 2006 with data centers in Atlanta, Seattle and Amsterdam. Its pages do not name the owners or a head office city.

## Review history

1. Oct 14, 2026First version built from verified sources: the web hosting page (four plans with cores, memory limits, storage, mailboxes and databases, the prices and renewals for the monthly, one-year, two-year and three-year tabs as the page renders them in a browser, the three locations, backups and the migration offer), the terms of service (KnownHost, LLC of Delaware; 30-day guarantee for new customers; everything non-refundable after 30 days; renewal charged two days before the due date; bandwidth overage rate), the about page (2006, three data centers) and the network page (locations and the availability claims). Published measurements: only TechRadar's March 2021 month exists and is stored with its gaps; HostScore is kept as an aggregate; no WPBeginner, Cybernews, HostingStep or Kripesh Adwani review of KnownHost exists, so the review says speed is not measured. No HostIdea monitoring window is open, so the scores are provisional: performance and uptime rest on the stack, the stated resources and the absence of a current independent record, support on the channels and reviewer accounts, features on the stated allocations, daily backups and three locations against the missing free domain and small Basic mailbox count, value on renewals of $7.16 to $33.96 that depend on the term.
