# About HostIdea

Who runs HostIdea, why we test hosting ourselves instead of collecting user reviews, and how the site is funded.

Last updated Oct 13, 2026

## Why HostIdea exists

Most hosting review sites rank hosts by commission, by user star ratings that nobody verifies, or by prose that repeats the host’s own marketing. We wanted a site where every rank comes from a measurement with a date on it.

## What we do

We read each host’s terms and price every plan on every billing term, cite independent measurements by name and date, run our own checks, and say plainly what has not been measured yet. Monitoring windows with our own test sites are being added host by host. There are no user reviews and no star submissions on this site.

## Who we are

HostIdea is a small team. Our authors and their credentials are listed on the [authors page](https://hostidea.com/authors). Placeholder copy until the final team page is written.

## How the site is funded

Through affiliate commissions when readers buy hosting through our links. HostIdea is operated by DM Research Labs, LLC. Commissions never change a score or a ranking. See the [disclosure](https://hostidea.com/disclosure) for the full picture.
